Stefanie Nunic had an outstanding season for the Boston University women's tennis team, becoming the first-ever league player to be named both the 2009 America East Women's Player and Rookie of the Year. Also named the America East Championship Most Outstanding Player, she led BU to its 16th straight conference crown with a pair of victories at first singles and also first doubles.
She ended the season with a 20-10 singles mark and entered the NCAA tournament first round matchup against UCLA on a six-match win streak. One of her wins came against No. 90 Mariana Muci of Florida International.
In the No. 1 contest against 15th-nationally ranked Yasmin Schnack at UCLA, Nunic was leading 6-3, 2-5 when play was halted after the defending champion Bruins claimed the team victory. The first set win was the first for the Terriers at the NCAAs since Carrie Rose took one in 1999 against Pepperdine.
