NCAA release
INDIANAPOLIS - Women's lacrosse and women's rowing are two Division I sports that will have their championship brackets expanded in 2013, the NCAA Executive Committee announced earlier this week.
Expanding its current size tournament of 16 teams to 26, the Women's Lacrosse Committee has eliminated play-in games and will now grant automatic qualification to 13 conference winners. Boston University has reached eight NCAA tournaments dating back to 2000.
The top eight teams will be seeded in the bracket and will host first- and second-round games. The top six seeded teams will receive byes into the second round and serve as hosts for a neutral-site first-round game May 10. The first-round winners then play at the top-six seeded teams May 12. The teams seeded seventh and eighth will also host, but they will have to play a first-round game May 10.
For the first time ever in women's rowing, automatic berths will be given to conference winners, as the bracket is expanded from 16 teams to 22. Finishing second in its first appearance at the CAA Championship this past May, Boston University will compete for a NCAA bid on May 19, 2013, and will have the same opportunity the following year in the Patriot League.
The Terriers have previously made six appearances at the NCAAs with the last at-large bid coming in 2006 for the varsity eight boat.
