This summer, GoTerriers.com is counting down the top 12 achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes in 2012-13. Check back each Tuesday and Friday as we reveal this year’s Terrier Twelve.

Coming in at No. 5 in this year’s Terrier Twelve is the women’s basketball team earning its second-ever postseason victory after receiving an automatic bid to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament for the second consecutive season.

BU advanced to the second round of the WNIT for the first time since 2009 with a 61-49 victory over Sacred Heart on March 21 at Case Gym. The Terriers only other postseason win came during the 2008-09 season, when BU defeated Central Connecticut State, 79-60, in the first round of the WNIT.

Playing in the second round of the WNIT for the second time in program history, the Terriers season came to a close with a 58-44 loss at Fordham on March 23. BU concluded the season with a 24-6 record. It marks the best overall record for the Terriers in school history, besting the 25-8 mark set by the 2008-09 team.

The Terriers earned an automatic bid to the WNIT after going 23-5 in the regular season. It was the fifth time in program history that BU advanced to the postseason. The Terriers also earned automatic bids to the WNIT in 2009, 2010 and 2012 and made the program’s only appearance in the NCA tournament in 2003 after claiming the America East championship.

In their final season as members of the America East, the Terriers finished in second place in the conference’s regular season standings with a 13-2 record, with the two losses against eventual league champion Albany. BU finished the regular season as the conference leader in blocked shots per game (5.3), 3-point field goals per game (7.4) and assist/turnover ratio (11.8). The Terriers also ranked third in all of Division I in fewest turnovers per game with 11.8.

For the second straight season, the Terriers strung together a 13-game winning streak dating from Nov. 27, 2013 to Jan. 19, 2013. It was the third-longest winning streak in the nation at the time.

Chantell Alford capped her terrific four-year career with the Terriers by being named America East Co-Player of the Year, becoming the first player in program history to capture three straight Player of the Year honors. The four-time All-Conference First Team honoree graduated as one of the most decorated players in program history and ranks in the top 10 all-time at BU in numerous statistical categories including first in career 3-pointers made (244), second in minutes played (4,061), and third in points (1,802).

Joining Alford on the All-Conference First Team for the second straight season was classmate Mo Moran, who finished her reign as the Terriers’ point guard with school records for assists (558) and minutes played (4,496).

Rashidat Agboola, who earned All-Conference First Team honors as well as All-Defensive Team honors last season is the leading returner for the Terriers and is joined by fellow starter Whitney Turner. In all, BU welcomes back 10 letterwinners to join four newcomers for the 2013-14 season.
