Holland broke the record for points in a game by a Terrier at The Roof.

June 27, 2008

Coming in at No. 8 on The Terrier Twelve is freshman John Holland's 38-point performance in the men's basketball team's 97-66 defeat of Hartford in Case Gymnasium on Feb. 28. Holland's point total was an America East season high and he set a new single-game record for points at The Roof by a BU player.

Holland scored all 10 of BU's opening points on a three-point play, an alley-oop dunk, a fast-break dunk and a 3-pointer, and accounted for 19 of the Terriers' 49 first-half points.

The 38-point effort was tied for the ninth-highest in program history, and it was the most by a Terrier since Tunji Awojobi dropped 43 points at Vermont on Feb. 10, 1996.

The Terriers' second-half resurgence coincided with the emergence of Holland as an impact player. After going through the first round of conference games to get a feel for his America East opponents, the wing player exploded to score in double figures in 11 of BU's final 14 games of the year. He was a six-time America East Rookie of the Week, winning the final five. His outstanding play persuaded opposing league coaches to name him the 2008 America East Rookie of the Year, in addition to earning a spot on the all-conference third team and the all-defensive team.

The Bronx native ended this rookie campaign as the team's second-leading scorer with 11.4 ppg and 5.0 rpg, good for second on the team as well. He was BU's leader in steals (44) and he shot 43.8 percent from the floor.
