BOSTON - For the fourth consecutive year, the Boston University Department of Athletics hosted the Massachusetts Special Olympics North Section Aquatics State Games Qualifier at Competition Pool on Saturday (May 5).

The event, organized by BU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, featured 300 Special Olympic athletes from different swim teams across the region. The student-athletes, led by event organizers and BU swim team members Tina Hoppe and Kara Zebrowski, assisted in everything from setting up for the event to recording the official times of the swimmers and handing out medals. More than 165 Boston University student-athletes volunteered at the meet.

“It was a huge honor for BU to host the Special Olympic swim meet again this year,” assistant director of student-athlete support services and SAAC advisor Jen Kentera said. “The Special Olympic athletes are such an inspiration. I am so proud of the job our BU student-athletes did in organizing and participating in this event especially during such a busy time of year for them . It was a great day for everyone involved.”
