Ring Appointed as Director of Development for Athletics at Boston University
BOSTON – Boston University is pleased to announce the hiring of Bill Ring as its director of development for athletics. Ring has served as the associate director of development at Boston College since March 2004. “We are looking forward to having Bill join our team,” said Mike Lynch, BU’s director of athletics. “He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to BU and we are looking forward to having him lead our athletic department’s development efforts.” At Boston College, Ring was responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding leadership gift prospects and fundraising for the $27-million Yawkey Athletics Center, a 72,000-square foot facility that houses BC football and the Office of Learning Resources for Student-Athletes. That building project was the first facility on campus to be funded entirely through philanthropic support. During the past two years, Ring and his team secured more than 80 leadership commitments. In addition to his development work, Ring also was responsible for the sale and renewal of more than 45 luxury suites in Alumni Stadium. Prior to BC, Ring served for nearly six years in the athletic development office at Georgetown University. He began on “The Hilltop” as the assistant director of Hoyas Unlimited (the annual fund) from 1998-2001, after which he was promoted to major gifts where he served as the assistant director of athletic development until 2004. Ring played an integral role in the University’s $1-billion Third Century Campaign, in which gifts to athletics exceeded $51 million. "This is a wonderful opportunity for me and my family," said Ring. "BU is a tremendous institution with a strong record of athletic success. I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to work with Mike Lynch and the outstanding development staff." A native of Jenkintown, Pa., Ring graduated from Georgetown where he was a four-year letterman and captain of the football team. Currently, Ring serves on the Hoyas Unlimited Board of Directors. Ring lives in West Roxbury with his wife, Kathleen, and their daughter, Ellie. |
